Autumn is here!
Updated: Oct 12

Autumn has arrived, although for now it seems to be arriving quietly.
There are still plenty of green leaves on the trees, but here and there, the colours are beginning to change. A touch of yellow. A little burnt orange. The occasional red leaf standing out amongst the green.
Some have already found their way to the ground.
The evenings are drawing in a little earlier, the light has changed, and there is that unmistakable freshness in the air that tells us summer is slipping further away.
The air is cooler now, but we don't wake up one morning to find out everything has suddenly changed and deep autumn has arrived.
It happens little by little.
The Smallest Signs
Nature seems very good at this.
A tree doesn't suddenly shed every leaf because autumn has appeared on the calendar.
One changes colour.
Then another.
A few fall.
Others remain green for weeks.
The landscape changes at its own pace.
There is something comforting in that.
We can sometimes approach a new season as though we ought to change with it immediately.
New routines. New intentions. Things we want to begin, stop or do differently.
But perhaps the beginning of autumn doesn't need to ask quite so much of us.
Maybe it can simply be a time to acknowledge the change of season and enjoy where we are now.
And sometimes, being in the present is found in the simplest things — in what we see, hear, feel and enjoy as the season begins to change.
What Does Autumn Feel Like to You?
Perhaps you've already reached for a favourite jumper that hasn't been worn for months.
Maybe you've noticed that first moment in the evening when you need to switch on a lamp earlier than you expected.
The cup of tea feels a little more inviting.
The blanket find its way back onto the sofa.
Walks begin to sound different as the first fallen leaves gather beneath our feet.
The falling rain seems colder.
These tiny seasonal changes become part of everyday life almost without announcement.
And our bodies move through them too.
We may find ourselves spending a little more time indoors. Our routines shift after summer. Work, school and familiar schedules settle back into place. The way we move through an ordinary day may begin to change.
There doesn’t have to be a grand autumn self-care plan waiting for us.
Sometimes care begins in much smaller ways.
Moving Into Autumn
Just as autumn arrives little by little, perhaps we can move into the new season gradually too.
There is time to discover what this season will look and feel like.
Time for walks amongst the first changing colours.
Time to enjoy those colours as they appear rather than waiting for the trees to be completely transformed.
Time to bring a little more comfort into our homes.
Time to return to things that perhaps slipped away during summer.
And time, occasionally, to let somebody else do the caring.
Massage can be one of those moments.
You arrive exactly as you are that day, settle onto the massage table and allow 60 or 90 minutes to unfold without needing to achieve anything. Time for tired muscles to soften, for some of the tension of everyday life to ease, for the body and mind to settle into a quiet rhythm, to breathe to deepen and a more natural sense of flow to return.
Or perhaps you simply enjoy massage and the way you feel afterwards.
There doesn't always need to be a bigger reason.
Just the Beginning
There will be plenty of time for autumn to deepen.
The leaves will continue changing. More will find their way to the ground. The evenings will become darker and th
e landscape will slowly take on the richer colours we associate with the season.
But not yet.
For now, autumn is only beginning.
Perhaps that’s something worth enjoying in itself — those first small signs of change, appearing here and there, without any need to hurry towards what comes next.
With warmth,
Jane
