September — Between the Seasons

September has a beauty that belongs entirely to itself.
Summer hasn’t quite left us, yet little signs of autumn are beginning to appear.
Here on the island, the weather has never been particularly interested in following the calendar. September can bring sunshine one moment, rain the next, followed by a breeze that has us reaching for another layer before heading outside.
Nature is beginning to give us clues.
Green leaves are slowly mingling with flashes of red, burnt orange and brown. Some have already fallen, scattered across paths and gathering beneath the trees.

Birds dart between the branches, while delicate spider webs appear amongst the leaves, their threads made even more beautiful when tiny drops of rain catch on them.
The evenings are drawing in.
The light is changing.
And somewhere amongst the rain, sunshine and breeze, the changing sky casts its colours across the sea as autumn quietly begins to make its presence felt.
September is a month of transition from one season to another, and it doesn’t happen overnight.
For a little while, it simply sits between the two.
Summer is slowly fading. Autumn is quietly appearing.
Where are you now?
September has always had a little feeling of ending and beginning again.
There’s something about this in-between time that can make us look at where we are now.
Perhaps for some of us it comes from memories of going back to school, opening a new notebook and returning to familiar routines after the summer holidays. Even years later, September can still carry a little of that feeling — a sense of turning a page.
Not where we thought we would be by September.
Not where we think we should be.
Simply where we are.
With only a few months of the year remaining, perhaps there’s something you’ve been meaning to return to. Something you’d love to learn. Somewhere you’d like to go. Or something you’ve been putting off.
And perhaps there are things in your life right now that are already lovely and deserve to be enjoyed.
The little things often shape our days — the routines that make life flow more easily, the people whose company we enjoy, the things that make us curious and the places that make us happy.
September doesn’t have to be about reinventing ourselves.
Perhaps it is simply a moment to appreciate where we are now, making room for the things that sometimes disappear when life gets busy, while leaving a little space for whatever might come next.
A Season of Harvest
As September unfolds, the feeling of autumn grows stronger.
Autumn has traditionally been the season of harvest — gathering what has grown before moving into the colder months.
And although most of us aren’t bringing in a harvest from the fields, perhaps there’s another kind of harvest to be found in what we’ve gathered through the year so far.
Experiences.
Friendships.
Memories.
Things we’ve learned.
Things that surprised us.
Things that didn’t quite work out as expected.
And perhaps things that turned out better than we imagined.
Not everything we gather through a year is something we can hold in our hands.
Sometimes we don’t realise how much has changed until we look back.
The Turning Point
On 23 September, we reach another turning point as autumn officially arrives with the autumn equinox.
Day and night come close to equal length before the evenings gradually become longer.
There’s something beautiful about that brief meeting of light and darkness.
And perhaps September has a little of that quality throughout — one thing giving way to another without either disappearing all at once.
Our lives rarely stay perfectly balanced either.
Some weeks are busy. Others give us more room.
Sometimes we’re surrounded by people; sometimes we enjoy our own company.
There are times when we give a great deal to others, and times when it feels good to let somebody else take care of us.
And that brings me to massage.
Sometimes It’s Lovely to Receive
Much of everyday life involves doing something.
Working, organising, cooking, driving, helping, planning, answering messages, remembering appointments and thinking about whatever needs doing next.
Massage asks something quite different of you.
For an hour, or perhaps an hour and a half, there is nowhere else you need to be.
You don’t need to look after anybody else.
You can simply lie on the massage table and let yourself be the person receiving the care.
Perhaps your shoulders and neck would appreciate some attention after returning to familiar routines.
Perhaps your legs are tired after an active summer.
Maybe your lower back is feeling the effects of spending longer sitting again.
Or perhaps nothing in particular is bothering you, and you simply want to give yourself an hour to relax.
Celebrating a September Birthday?

For some of you, September holds an extra reason to celebrate — your birthday.
Another year to celebrate, with experiences and memories gathered along the way, and a little time just for you.
And if someone you care about is celebrating a September birthday, a massage can make a thoughtful gift too — a little time for relaxation, wellbeing and care.
Throughout September, anyone celebrating a September birthday who books a 60-minute massage will receive an extra 15 minutes as a little birthday gift from Palm Room Massage.
You can book the birthday treatment for yourself, or purchase a gift voucher for a friend or family member celebrating their birthday this September.
60 minutes becomes 75 — a little birthday gift from Palm Room Massage.
A thoughtful gift of massage, relaxation and time to be cared for.
With warmth,
Jane
