June Wellness: Taking Time to Care for Yourself and Others

June is a month of appreciation, awareness and renewal. As the days become longer and summer approaches, it also marks the halfway point of the year—a natural opportunity to pause and reflect on how the year has unfolded so far.

Have you been taking care of your health and wellbeing? Have you made time for the people and activities that matter most? June invites us to check in with ourselves, celebrate those who enrich our lives and consider what we want the second half of the year to look like.

From recognising volunteers and teachers to raising awareness of men's health, celebrating fathers and welcoming the Summer Solstice, June reminds us that caring for others begins with caring for ourselves.

Volunteer Week (1-7 June) : Celebrating Community Spirit

Volunteers are the heart of our communities. They generously give their time, energy and skills to support charities, local organisations, sports clubs and community groups. Their contributions often go unseen, yet they make an enormous difference to the lives of others.

While volunteering can be incredibly rewarding, it can also be physically and emotionally demanding. Volunteer Week offers an opportunity not only to thank those who give their time so freely, but also to encourage them to take care of their own wellbeing. After all, supporting others is much easier when we are looking after ourselves too.

This week, consider recognising a volunteer in your community or finding a small way to give back to a cause that matters to you.

International Men's Health Week (15 - 21 June) : Taking Positive Steps Towards Better Emotional Health and Wellbeing

International Men's Health Week takes place from 15–21 June 2026. First established in the United States in 1994 and adopted in the UK in 2002, the week shines a spotlight on the health challenges facing men and encourages positive action to improve physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.

This year, the Men's Health Forum is highlighting the important role pharmacies can play in supporting men's health. The campaign encourages men to engage more actively with health services, seek advice earlier and take a proactive approach to their wellbeing.

Across the UK and Ireland, organisations are raising awareness of men's health, preventative care, mental wellbeing and the importance of reducing social isolation. The message is clear: small, positive steps can make a significant difference to long-term health and wellbeing.

How You Can Get Involved

Men's Health Week is an opportunity for individuals, families, workplaces and communities to take meaningful action towards improving men's health and wellbeing.

  • Move your body. Regular movement, in whatever form feels right for you, can help support physical health, mental wellbeing and overall quality of life.

  • Book Routine health checks and screenings.

  • Encourage open conversations about mental health and emotional wellbeing.

  • Rest, relax and manage stress.

  • Support men's health organisations and local community groups.

Every small step matters. This Men's Health Week, challenge yourself—or encourage someone you care about—to take one small step towards a healthier future. It is a great way to support men and boys of all ages.

What small step could you take to support the wellbeing of someone you care about this Men's Health Week?

Thank a Teacher Day (18 June): Showing Appreciation

Teachers inspire, guide and support us throughout our lives. Their work often extends far beyond the classroom, involving lesson preparation, marking, pastoral care and countless hours dedicated to helping students succeed.

The demands of teaching can be significant, requiring patience, resilience and dedication. Thank a Teacher Day on 18 June provides an opportunity to recognise the important role teachers play in our communities and to express gratitude for their commitment to helping others learn and grow.

A simple message of thanks, a card or a kind gesture can go a long way in making a teacher feel valued and appreciated.

Father's Day (21 June): Celebrating the Dads in Our Lives

Father's Day is a time to celebrate fathers, grandfathers, stepfathers and father figures who support and care for their families throughout the year.

Many dads spend much of their time looking after others and often place their own wellbeing last. Father's Day offers a valuable reminder that self-care, rest and maintaining good health are important at every stage of life.

Whether it's spending quality time together, enjoying a favourite activity or simply expressing appreciation, Father's Day is an opportunity to acknowledge the positive influence fathers and father figures have on our lives.

Summer Solstice (21 June): Welcoming the Longest Day of the Year

The Summer Solstice marks the longest day of the year and the official start of summer. Around this time, the Sun reaches its highest point in the sky, and for a few days the changing length of daylight appears to pause before gradually shifting once again. For centuries, this moment has symbolised abundance, growth and renewal.

In our busy lives, the Solstice offers a gentle reminder to be present. Rather than constantly looking ahead or dwelling on what has already passed, it invites us to appreciate where we are right now. Taking time to pause, reflect and reconnect with ourselves can help reduce feelings of stress and overwhelm while bringing greater clarity and balance.

As we move into the summer months, consider setting intentions that support your wellbeing—whether that means becoming more active, spending more time outdoors, improving your work-life balance or simply making more time for rest and relaxation. Allow yourself to be fully present in the moments you enjoy and make time for the people, places and activities that nurture your heart and soul.

A Month of Appreciation and Presence

At the heart of all these June observances is a common theme: wellbeing matters. Whether you're supporting your community, prioritising your health, recognising the efforts of teachers, celebrating fathers or embracing the energy of the summer season, taking time to care for yourself is essential.

As we reach the halfway point of the year and welcome the start of summer, June offers a valuable opportunity to pause, reflect and reset. Rather than focusing on what hasn't been achieved, consider how far you've come and what small changes might help you feel healthier, happier and more balanced during the months ahead.

Looking after your wellbeing doesn't require dramatic changes. Small, consistent actions—getting enough rest, staying active, connecting with others and making time to relax—can have a lasting impact on both physical and mental health.

Massage therapy is one of many ways to support overall wellbeing. It can help ease muscular tension, reduce stress, encourage relaxation and provide an opportunity to pause from the demands of everyday life.

As we move into the second half of the year, take a moment to pause, reset and prioritise your wellbeing. A little time invested in yourself can have a lasting impact on how you feel in the months ahead.
